Practicing members
Description
Practicing members are members of our congregation who have been through the apprenticeship and are interested in continuing with us as members of the church but have not yet decided to pursue covenanted membership. The cycle follows the apprenticeship starting in the fall with an evaluation of next steps in the late spring or early summer. The objectives are:
- continuing spiritual development and formation
- integration with covenanted members
- exploration in the value and practice of group change
Elements
Here is what to expect as a Practicing Member
- Participate in household life
- Meet monthly as a group (readings and homework may be assigned)
- Practice sojourner lifestyle forms (as individuals) and live with commitments through the retreat.
- Finances
- Calendar
- Sabbath Practices
- Church Tasks
- Weekly Schedule
- Meet with a mentor
- Discuss major life changes with church
- Go on retreat (mid-year)
- Complete a Change project
- Initial proposal
- Can be done as smaller groups
- Look for outside input (doesn’t need to be local)
- Submit a proposal to church
